On a sunny August day, an enthusiastic group of BSu3a members, many resplendent in silly hats against the hot weather, embarked on a Don's of Dunmow coach to take us to Maldon, followed by Wilkin Jams Tiptree.
Maldon of course is famous for its salt, iconic Thames barges, and the last battle between Saxons and Vikings on English soil, leading to a Viking victory.

We all enjoyed our free time, strolling through Promenade Park and visiting local shops and cafes.
A short journey then took us to Wilkin Jam Factory and a prebooked tour of the fruit farm by land train, only available to groups, together with an expert guide.

It was very informative and enjoyable, accompanied by a taste of their wonderful strawberries.
There was then time for buying jam and other goodies and visiting the museum.
Rounding off the day was a delicious cream tea served in the marquee.
A very enjoyable day and relatively local.
